lifeiscarbon® is in the market for a new company car and we rather liked the sound of a car called "the new Norwegian Porsche". However, on further investigation it turned out to be neither truly Norwegian nor a Porsche. The Buddy, from ElBilNorge, maybe produced in Norway but it was originally developed in Denmark and the chassis and seats come from Latvia, the electric motor and batteries come from the USA, the gears from Italy, and the electronics from England amongst other places. The confusion about being a Porsche comes from the fact that their latest model is offered in 'Porsche Grey'.
Despite this, we're seriously thinking of getting one. The authorities in Norway have ambitious plans for the increased use of electric vehicles, including incentives offering considerable financial and time-saving benefits. These include no tax for electric cars (car tax in Norway is the highest in the world), no road tolls (most cities in Norway have tolls to enter with a car), free parking, the use of the bus lane and even a network of free charging stations.
Buddy maybe small and ugly (in a cute sort of way) but it certainly makes sense from a financial and environmental point of view. We just wonder how it's going to cope in the snow....
