Cecilie Manz: True One Off

Manzoneofftop

"I view all my works as fragments of one big, ongoing story where the projects are often linked or related in terms of their idea, materials and aesthetics, across time and function."

So says, Cecilie Manz another of our favorite designers here at lifeiscarbon®. Through her company, Manz Lab, she designs furniture, glassware and lamps but as a solo designer she also develops experimental prototypes. These sculptural one-offs make up an important part of her work and approach:

"Some objects remain experiments or sculpted ideas, others are made more concrete and turn into functional tools."

After graduation from the Danmarks Designskole in Copenhagen in 1997 and following additional studies at the University of Art and Design in Helsinki, Cecilie Manz founded her own studio in Copenhagen in 1998. Her work has been exhibited widely, most recently at SOFA in Chicago and at Honey, I'm Home at the Danish Design Centre.

Cecilie Manz has also recently been showing pieces at Drud & Køppe, an interesting new gallery in Copenhagen, Denmark. The gallery shows contemporary objects created and produced exclusively as unique exhibits designed to comment on human existence and artistic traditions.

Holmegaard, the glass division of Royal Scandinavia, recently brought out the Light Bottle, a candle light holder and yet another new design by Cecilie Manz. Minima, her previous design for Holmegaard, is said to have been created for modern people who want well-thought-out functionality right down to the smallest detail. Certainly her glassware is perhaps the most pure and minimalistic glass design we've ever seen. Light Bottle gets added to the already long list of Manz Lab designs that we love such as Treasure, Black Box + Base, Candle Light, Micado Table etc. The list goes on and on. We love them all.
