Scandinavian music increasingly seems to be reaching a global audience. From the ethereal folk strains of Stina Nordenstam and Emiliana Torrini, via the epic post rock of Mum and Sigur Ros, to the electro pop of Royksopp and Flunk. It seems the long winters are doing wonders for musical creativity.
Sitting somewhere in between are Husky Rescue, a five piece from Helsinki. Formed by producer Marko Nyberg to compose 'cinematic music infused with hypnotic textures', Husky Rescue is most often a collective of five friends but at times incorporates over 20 musicians. All of whom contributed to the debut album, Country Falls that was released last year to good critical reviews.
Country Falls is a mix of delicate, country-influenced folk-pop with organic instrumentation and sparse, affecting samples, topped by the swooning vocals of Reeta-Leena Korhola and Emma Salokoski.

Still from the New Light Of Tomorrow video
Diamonds in the Sky, released back in September, is the first single taken from their soon to released new album Ghost Is Not Real (available internationally from January 2007 onwards). While we wait to get our hands on it, lifeiscarbon® are re-listening to Country Falls and it's back at the top of our playlist.
Take a listen to New Light Of Tomorrow and dream of long dark winters.
