Terje is an outdoor multimedia performance based the epic poem Terje Viggen by Henrik Ibsen. It has previously been staged twice in Norway. Firstly, at a lighthouse off the rugged coast of Grimstad, where Ibsen lived as a young man, and later at the National Theatre in Oslo.
This month (16-26 November), London-based Arts Alliance Productions will premiere a new production on a massive scale at Shinko Pier in Yokohama , using a translated version of the original poem. Masatoh Ibu stars in the role as the narrator and drives the dynamic between music, text, projected film and movement. The piece celebrates maritime cultures and focuses on life's hard choices of love, hate, revenge and forgiveness.
Terje is a collaboration between Norway and Japan, with extensive support from Norwegian Government, City of Yokohama and commercial sponsors. The goal of the performance is to build a cultural bridge between the two countries.
