Here's an ingenious and elegant piece of design from Denmark – the country that made cycling sexy again. The trioBike services three needs by acting as a carrier bike, a standalone pushchair and a regular bicycle. And the great news is they happen to have sold their first trioBike in the UK to our friend Hannah and she’s now the talk of the town – cycling her two kids to school in the good looking machine before locking the cart up outside school and then taking the bike on to work for the day. She's had countless compliments and inquiries about her clever urban mobility solution because unlike others, she and the kids never get stuck in traffic and are never late for school.
lifeiscarbon® think it’s a Glamorous Green solution. Why? Well, for a number of reasons. Most car journeys are under two miles in distance (60% of all car journeys in the UK, for example). Typically, we jump in the car to head to the local shops and/or throw the kids in the back of the vehicle for the school run – congesting the roads and burning Carbon but not calories. And short journeys – stops-start journeys – are most harmful to the environment.
The trioBike provides an elegant, useful and safe mobility solution for the family that breaks our addiction to short trip car use. And it overcomes a number of the major barriers to cycling: poor image, safety (in particular with kids in mind) and bad weather. trioBike is a design icon, with a price tag to prove it. It's a safe way to cycle with young kids and the kids get to keep dry (although the poor cyclist still gets wet).
Couple the green mobility benefit with the fact that the trioBike serves multiple needs and multiple family members. Ultimately, it functions as a shared solution and removes the need for multiple bike purchases and storage. lifeiscarbon® think that cities around the world should bulk order large numbers of these bikes, import them from Denmark and then provide a leasing service to young mothers and fathers to enable them to transport their kids to school. Why not use a small portion of the money collected from congestion charging or city center car entrance schemes and put it straight towards starting up an initiative like this?
Thank you trioBike for showing us how to make cycling a clever and sexy urban choice for the family.
trioBike comes in a range of colours and fully customizable options. We particularly like the overall design and attention to detail (e.g. motorcycle style brakes, integrated front and rear lighting etc).
