Elvine is a Swedish streetwear label founded by Daniel Mänd in the summer of 2001. Elvine tend to work with fabrics like canvas, twill, corduroy and linen, and treat their materials in a variety of ways to make the garment as comfortable as possible.
Swedish designer Daniel Mänd had been working in the fashion industry for many years and felt that it was finally time for him to turn his many ideas into reality and launch them under his own label. His ambition was to make a hassle free collection of street wear in a style that “illuminated intelligence instead of the stereotypical”. We’re not sure exactly what that means but we certainly like much of Elvine’s range of clothing and we can’t help falling for the story behind the name of the brand.
Elvine was born in the year of 1912, in Hioma, Estonia. She was raised under poor conditions and oppressed under the soviet regime. Elvine and her family managed to survive the terrors of World War I after which she started to work at a clothing factory as a seamstress. In the mid thirties Elvine started to raise a family of her own. During the World War II she was forced to flee to Sweden, on her own with her four children. Elvine is clearly a strong and determined woman, who also happens to be Daniel Mänd’s grandmother. Grandmother Elvine provides not only the name but also the inspiration for the clothing brand.
Elvine started out with jeans but now work with a range of other materials. Their clothing makes use of a lot of "living" fabrics such as canvas, twills, corduroy and linen with different washes and treatments to give them the desired look. Elvine’s overall aim is simply to create garments with a good fit, a clean cut and that are comfortable to wear. It's a modest ambition that they seem to be acheiving. We're sure that Elvine senior is very proud of her grandson.
