Professional free skiers Kaj Zackrisson and Sverre Liliequist have competed in big mountain and skier cross at a world class level for many years. They are also well known for appearing in some great ski films from Free Radicals, IMAX and Swedish Posse. When off the slopes, they satisfy their adrenaline thirst with other pursuits such as surfing, motor cross, skateboarding and crochet! Yes, that's right, Kaj and Sverre like to crochet and it's the story behind the creation of their successful clothing brand, Kask.
At various times, Kaj and Sverre often had lots of time to kill. When traveling around searching for the best skiing they often ended up spending days and days in their minivan going from one ski resort to another. Sverre was looking for a way to pass the time and was also searching for the perfect beanie for himself. Nothing he found seemed to have the right look or fit. Somehow, whilst killing time, Sverre mastered the art of crocheting and soon his new hobby also caught on with Kaj. Suddenly an underground cult was born. Beanies in all shapes and colors started coming out of their van and were soon being given to friends. The Kask beanie was soon seen on the heads of ski bums and professional skiers throughout the best ski resorts all over the world. These days Kask is a fully fledged business with growing international distribution and a range that now extends beyond beanies to t-shirts, hoodies, socks and mittens.
This weekend the cold weather finally arrived in Scandinavia and we were suddenly in need of some warm hats and mittens. Kask fitted the bill. We love their quirky style and the fact that they're offering something different from everything else that's in Scandinavian sports stores at the moment. I'm sure we’ll soon be going back to snap up more of their range.
Earlier this year, lifeiscarbon® sat next to Kaj during a flight from Stockholm to Oslo and discovered that, as well as being an excellent skier and rather good at crocheting, he happens to be a very nice guy.
