Skandia Simple from Vujj

lifeiscarbon® owe a big debt of thanks to Björn at Manolo.se for introducing us to Vujj, a new furniture design company from Malmö, Sweden. We have totally fallen in love with their furniture, their new showroom and even the photos from their latest location shoot (taken by PMKFA & Fabian Svensson).

Vujj was established in early 2006, when Artur Moustafa and Jonas Nordgren, who design collectively under the title Artur & Jonas, joined forces with the Mexican bedding giant Grupo Selther. The new company is clearly trying to marry the tradition of furniture craftsmanship that's long existed in the Skåne region of southern Sweden with the latest materials and manufacturing techniques. So far it seems to have paid off and their first range of furniture, shelving and glassware is simple, efficient and beautiful.

In November, Vujj opened a brand new showroom in Malmö and we especially love PMKFA’s mural that dominates one wall of the space. Besides the Vujj objects and furniture on display, you’ll also find other select offerings from Vujj's friends such as PMKFA's t-shirt brand, It's our thing, silver design from Jox Silver and a selection of magazines & books.

We love the fact that within the paired down aesthetic there’s a wit that emerges from the subtle detailing in many of their pieces. Here are some highlights from their range:

Vujj
Mollis: Easy Chair and Coffee Table

A slender and low-slung easy chair and coffee table. The wooden seat is made from molded veneer that’s available with a stained or transparent lacquer finish. The seat pad is made from foam and upholstered in either fabric or leather. The chair sits on a double cross stainless steel leg frame, available in either powder coated or brushed finish. Designed as a companion piece to the easy chair, the Mollis Coffee Table shares the same inherent simplicity and lightness of form

Vujj2
Proetida: Dining Chair and Relaxed Chair/Stool

A lightweight and stackable range of chairs. The Proetida is made from molded veneer and available with a stained or transparent lacquer finish. The removable seat pads are made from foam and upholstered in fabric, and the glide legs are in either brushed or powder coated stainless steel.

Vujj3
Apollo: Easy Chair

Exemplifying the notion of structural rigidity, the Apollo is compact, neat and has a reassuring sense of place. The seat shell is glass fibre polyester and can be fully upholstered in fabric or leather. The chair sits on a double cross stainless steel leg frame, available in either powder coated or brushed finish.

Vujj4
Flight: Sofas and Coffee Table

A system that comprises of a one, two and three-seat sofas. Traditionally made with a beech frame, foam, springs, and is fully upholstered. The legs are slightly tapered and made in ash to varying sizes depending upon the sofa model. The Flight is a large sofa with a particularly deep seat that’s well crafted and built for comfort.
