Perhaps 2007 will be the year that Johan Lindberg finally manages to emerge from the shadows of his former business partner Renzo Rosso. Ten years after leaving Diesel to found his own fashion line, the Swedish fashion designer has unveiled “a new level of luxury” for his J.Lindeberg line in Milan. The Autumn 07 collection features high-waisted pants, pleats galore, cropped jackets and ankle-length trench coats. Clearly, skinny is out and baggy is in and, as we noted in an earlier piece about Tiger Of Sweden, Grey is definitely the new Black.
Our friends at Manolo.se not only have a good piece about the new luxury line, in which they proclaim “Lindeberg Goes High Fashion”, but also have details of Johan Lindeberg’s new diffusion range called simply JOHAN. Lindeberg will unveil the new lower-priced line later this week and plans for it to hit stores in the summer. According to the designer, "It's slightly younger and more rock 'n' roll" than the main collection, and is heavy on snug blazers and skinny jeans......(more)
Which is good news for us. All this talk of baggy pleated pants, short jackets and the predominance of grey had us slightly worried. For the last five years, snug fitting Lindeberg outfits in black, black and more black have been the unofficial staff uniform at lifeiscarbon®. Looks like we’ll be trading down to new diffusion range and wearing JOHAN from now on.
Take a look at some great photographs of the J.Lindeberg Autumn 07 collection at Men.Style.Com. Here’s some of what they had to say about the new collection:
Today's collection marked both the tenth anniversary of Johan Lindeberg's brand and a creative departure for the designer. He declared his ambition to bring his signature line to "a new level of luxury and personal expression," and it turned out that wasn't just marketing speak.
Executed in grays, blacks, and muted greens and pulled together by stylist Alistair Mackie's brilliant touches—heavy boots, wool watch caps worn pushed back on the models' heads, silver bead necklaces at the throat—the clothes had a sort of new-wave vagabond feel. Johan himself described today's look as a mix between "a French artist and Manchester in the eighties." And with this cohesive, well-executed outing, he showed that he's ready to embark on a new order.
We love the new collection, despite our earlier comments, and we’re still huge fans of Johan Lindeberg but somehow the new luxury style reminds us of military uniforms from WWII and David Bowie during his Year Of The Diamond Dogs phase.
