Louise Loves White
Always start from scratch. Everything is possible until the opposite is proven. Every decision must have a good reason.
So read the ground rules of the design studio of Louise Campbell, another of our favorite Scandinavian Designers. The results of this doctrine are designs that are playful and experimental, and push materials and manufacturing processes in interesting new directions.
lifeiscarbon® agree with the suggestion that the combination of Scandinavian rationalism and femininity, and perhaps her dual nationality, give her work its unusual edge.
Louise Campbell was born in Copenhagen in 1970 but, being of Danish and English parents, she grew up in Denmark and the UK. After graduating from the London College of Furniture in 1992, she returned to Denmark to continue her studies in Industrial Design and graduated from Denmark’s Design School in 1995.
Since 1996 she’s had her own independent design studio, from where she's worked on furniture and lighting designs, with a more recent focus on product design and interior design projects. Clients have so far included companies such as Louis Poulsen, Zanotta, HAY, Holmegaard, Stelton, Muuto, Interstop and The Danish Ministry of Culture.
Louise Campbell has also been highly involved with the Walk The Plank initiative, collaboration between 30 furniture designers and 60 cabinetmakers, who have all donated their time and original designs to improve the design environment in Denmark.
Her work has been widely exhibited and her solo shows have so far included: SimSum - Madrid (2006), EPAL - Iceland (2005), Studies of Light for Louis Poulsen (2004-5), 3 Falke Møbler - Copenhagen (2004), Quick Quick Slow - Danish Design Centre (2002), Waiting Rooms - Trapholt (2002). Her participation in group exhibitions has included: Use it - Japan Expo (2005), Nordic Cool, Hot Women Designers – Washington, 40/4 Homage to David Rowland – European tour, The Generation X - Global, Designers Block – London and Tokyo, The Danish Wave – Asia, Talente – Munich and many more.
She has won many awards and grants, including Elle Decoration International Design Award (2006), Wallpaper Magazine Interiors Maverick Award (2006), Bo Bedre Magazine Designer of the Year Award (2005), The Finn Juhl Architectural Award (2004), IF Gold medal Award (2004), Danish Arts Council Award (2003) and Red Dot Design Award (2004) amongst others.
We’re looking forward to seeing the results of her current long list of commissions, which include new designs for chairs, sofas, tables, storage units, lamps, tableware, glassware, desktop accessories, jewellery, textiles and urban installations.
