They’ve served us well over many years but we must admit that we’re growing a little tired our trusty set of Global knives. So we are delighted that our favorite Danish design company, Normann Copenhagen, have launched a new range of kitchen knives.
There’s not much we need to say about the new range – the pictures below speak for themselves – and, as we’ve come to expect from Normann, the new knives are yet another example of stylish and functional industrial design that focuses on user friendliness.
The new range, called simply Normann Knives, is the result of a collaboration between the Canadian designer Francis Cayouette and Normann Copenhagen. Here’s what Francis had to say about the new designs:
”I have focused a great deal on ergonomics in the design process – not only on the organic shape but also on making the knives feel like a natural extension of the arm. The knives are a tool whose ergonomic design ensures the user a good experience whenever they hold the knife. The industrial design gives the knives a distinctive look when they hang on the wall or lie on a kitchen work surface.”
“The objects surrounding us should be able to adapt to our fast and constantly changing life situations. Our needs are increasing …. but space is not. I believe there is a challenge in creating better basic products that makes life easier instead of making it more complicated.”
Francis Cayouette is a member of the Danish Designers Society and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial design from the Faculty of Environmental Design at the University of Montreal (1994). Francis also pursued studies at Les Ateliers at ENSCI in Paris, as part of his education.
The range, which currently includes a Paring knife, Chef’s knife, Utility knife, Chef’s knife and a Bread knife, is made of Japanese stainless steel and is intended for both home and professional kitchen use. Normann Knives will be in stores by April 2007.
