It’s time for the third part of carboncollective™, the series in which we are showcasing the work of some of the best Flickr photographers from Scandinavia. We’ve hand picked some of the more interesting photographers from Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden in order to show you a selection of their work on lifeiscarbon®. In our eyes, all of the photographers we've selected demonstrate a strong sense of Scandinavian aesthetics in their work and, as a collective, their photography spans a broad range of styles and subject matter.
Our third photographer is Sannah Kvist (Born 1986) from Stockholm. After dropping out of photography school in Sunne, Värmland, Sannah moved to Amsterdam as an intern with the renowned artist Melanie Bonajo before eventually returning to Sweden and setting up home in Stockholm.
Sannah is currently biding her time working in the photo department of a large electronics store in Stockholm whilst still busily pursuing her passion for photography. The quality of her photography has not gone unnoticed and she’s so far taken part in a number of group shows: The Mugfaker Project – Barcelona (2006), Pets - Gonzoo, Amsterdam (2006), 24 Liv - Sundsbergs Gård, Sunne (2005) and Halva Inne - Elsa Hus, Linköping (2004). Indeed, some of Sannah’s work has been published; firstly in the book, I Am Not From Finland and then in a calendar for Bielefelder Philharmoniker Verbindungen.
Sannah describes her work as the everyday ordinary and strives whenever possible, to achieve a spontaneous look, even when it’s not. These days, Sannah works entirely in digital (Canon EOS 10D, ef 35mm f/2 and a Canon Speedlite 430EX) but owns four Canon SLR's, two Konica SLR’s, two Nikon SLR’s, a Minolta SLR and about ten analogue compact cameras. They are however, purely for decoration.
Sannah lives with her girlfriend in the southern part of Stockholm and has never actually been further north than Downtown Stockholm. Her tip for people if they visit Stockholm is to try one of the cocktails at the Södermalm bar, Snottys. She recommends either a Neutral Milk Hotel or an Apples in Stereo…. or both, but preferably not at the same time.
Other interesting facts about Sannah: She has a cat named Marie Curie. She mostly listens to 80's music. Her biggest dislike is being freezing cold. When she has a hangover, she usually ends up buying stupid expensive things such as new cell phones and sofas. Her favorite beer is Chimay. Her one small regret is that she has so far not learnt to play the bass guitar.
We love the spontaneity in Sannah’s work and the way she so beautifully captures the everyday mundane. She’s clearly deserves to be an honorary member of the Nordic Angst school of photography.
Take a look at a selection of her darker photographs in the carboncollective™ III gallery.
