lifeiscarbon® popped along to Hus in New York, a retail store exclusively focused on Scandinavia, to check out their selection of brands and products. Hus was started by some Scandinavians friends living in America who enjoy keeping up to date with what's in vogue in Denmark and the other Scandinavian countries.
Hus is clearly attempting to offer a one-of-a-kind retail shopping experience that fully immerses New Yorkers in a holistic Scandinavian experience including feel (design, products), sights (art, movies), sound (music) and taste (food, drinks). Whilst it’s a great store and we admire their ambition, the selection does seem somewhat narrow and rather biased to Danish and Swedish products (see below).
Hus’ selection includes fashion-forward suits and shirts for men and skirts, dresses and shirts for women from Tiger of Sweden and Filippa K, eclectic women’s clothing from Tjallamalla and jeans from Swedish brands Nudie Jeans and WeSC.
There's also a selection of interior design products from Danish producers Rosendahl, Erik Bagger and Stelton. Multi-facetted Swedish jeweler Efva Attling presents exclusive pieces from her women’s and men’s jewelry line. You’ll also find a large collection of children’s clothing from Danish producers MoLo and Holly’s Baby and children’s hats from Swedish Wilma & Morris.
Sneakers from stylishly understated Swedish Tretorn, boots from Scene by Tjallamalla, timepieces from Ezteem, hand-made ties from Margaretha Julle Design, and music from various independent Scandinavian soul, ambient and hip-hop artists complete the selection.
Steen, from Denmark, started working on his idea for Hus in early 2005, by researching and analyzing which brands the region has to offer and what products would be of interest to you consumers in New York , before opening the store in November last year.
