Given the rate at which they launch new designs, it’s no surprise that our first posting after the long Summer break is about a new range of products from Normann Copenhagen. Form, designed by Charles Job, comprises of a sleek looking kitchen timer, highly practical salt & pepper set and a minimal looking egg slicer (an essential on every Scandinavian breakfast table). As with the rest of the Normann Copenhagen range, whilst the products are all intelligently designed there’s also a touch of humor to ensure that dull everyday routines are slightly more fun to complete.
The designer explains the inspiration behind Form: “The idea for the trio was triggered by the shadows on a photograph. They were soft, compelling, ephemeral, and very intriguing. I masked the object and fell in love with the shadows. With time, these shadows grew in my mind. They materialized into a family of objects, simple, solid, sexy stone like tools. Three objects of equal proportions, each serving a completely different purpose. Five years later, I went to a fair, and discovered Normann Copenhagen, with their uncompromising yet playfully beautiful objects. It was clear the shadows had found a home.”
Charles O. Job was born in Lagos, Nigeria and gained a diploma in architecture at the Oxford Polytechnic school of architecture, followed by work experiences in Paris, London and Zürich where Charles currently teaches architecture and runs his design studio.
