Retro Knitwear With A Hint Of Glam

Iis1

With an unusually small amount of snow lying on the ground in Scandinavian cities this year, luckily there was enough left in the mountains to enjoy some skiing during last week’s traditional Winter Holiday.

Despite our love of minimalist modern design and monochromatic fashion, when we head off to our remote cabin in Jotunheimen to get away from it all, we inevitably dig out our old Norwegian sweaters. They may not be fashionable or cool but they certainly have a distinctive style all of their own and none of the latest high-tech fibers can match them for warmth.

Imagine our delight therefore in discovering iiS, a Norwegian fashion brand that creates traditional Scandinavian sweaters with a modern twist. As well as their wonderful sweaters for women, lifeiscarbon® also happen to love the fact that iiS truly is a family effort - run by the mother and daughter design duo of Olaug Seland and Siv Elise Seland. Look below to read more about iiS and see a selection of their wonderful traditionally inspired retro knitwear that have just a hint of added glam.

Siv Elise Seland was born in Stavanger, Norway in 1975. After graduating from the Teko Center in Denmark as a fashion designer in 2001, she went on to gain a masters degree from the Istituto Marangoni in Milan, Italy. Even while studying, Siv Elise managed to work at Stefano Guerriero’s design studio and somehow found time to design her first collection for Davina (a Norwegian fashion brand owned by her mother). Turning down the opportunity to work at Versace, Siv Elise chose to return to Norway to work full time for Davina and following a time during which she prioritized family life, she eventually created the iiS brand.

Olaug Seland was born in Karmøy, Norway in 1955 and has gained a rich and varied experience in the textile and knitwear industries, both in Norway and overseas. In 1998 she decided to fulfill a long-term ambition by starting her own fashion company, Davina. After enjoying much success with the Davina brand for some years, Olaiug eventually decided to create iiS with her daughter, Siv Elise. Their first knitwear collection was ready in the Spring of 2006 and ever since they’ve been aiming to have fun by creating new and fresh designs for girls who like to wear knitwear.
