Swedish Techotopian Footwear

Ch1
Photos by Knotan

Given the popularity of Cheap Monday, there must be a fair few people out there looking to discover an authentic Swedish canvas sneaker to compliment their authentic Swedish skinny leg jeans. Perhaps Cheapo are the answer (well… the names seem to work together).

The Cheapo footwear range is the offspring of Blammo AB, a fashion accessory company from Sweden. Cleverly foreseeing the boom in vulcanized shoes, Cheapo introduced their first line of fashionable canvas footwear back in 2005 – somewhat unusually, their sneakers originally came packed in Pizza boxes!

Within a year, the company introduced their now much sought after Ninja Boot. Thanks to originality of the design of this hybrid sneaker boot, Cheapo's international expansion took off rapidly. It’s rumored that some stores around Europe sold out of their entire stock of Cheapos within days! Personally, we’re in love with their Twiggy model (in black of course) but look below at some of their latest designs and pick your own favorite:

Despite their success and the likely expansion of the company over the coming years, Cheapo say that they'll maintain a non-conformist and antagonistic approach to marketing, design and product development. We hope they do, since we love Cheapo’s original yet affordable shoes and the subtle mix of influences from both the high street and the world of high fashion.

Cheapo claim that everything they do will always be influenced by a Techotopian way of thinking. Techotopia, as much a way of life as it is a concept, apparently it exists somewhere in the indistinct area between nature and technology. According to Cheapo, Techotopia inspires them to see things in new ways and to continually reinvent their perception of their surroundings. That could mean plugging electronics into flowerpots, lighting up the forest with artificial colors or finding nature's secret hideouts in urban environments. Judging by the success that Cheapo has enjoyed so far , their techotopian vision seems to be working.
