Smart Swedish Design

Powerwise

In a fruitful new collaboration, the Swedish based designers Johanna Strand and Åsa Elmstam have developed a highly functional and stylishly minimalist new piece of furniture. Powerwise is designed to help people handle their everyday electronic devices in a smarter way. As we all know, cell phones, Mp3-players, cameras and handheld computers are forever in need of recharging and rather annoyingly they all come with their own adaptors. By now, most of us also happen to know that a charger that's constantly plugged in to the wall is not only an environmental burden and an unnecessary electricity cost but also a potential fire hazard. Sadly, if chargers aren’t plugged into sockets they seem to have a tendency to go missing just when they’re needed most.

Johanne and Åsa claim that Powerwise will lower energy consumption, reduce standby times and diminish the risk of fires. By keeping chargers in one place, their design certainly helps keep walls and floors free from unsightly tangled cords and an untidy scattering of gadgets. And if these purposes didn’t justify the creation of the new design, it also happens to make a great place to sit. Since lifeiscarbon® happen to love monochromatic minimalist designs, it’s no surprise that we’ve fallen for Powerwise. Take a look at more images of the new design below:

“The chargers in Powerwise can be left in their sockets all the time. When you're not charging a device you simply turn off the electricity with the red switch. Chargers that are used seldom can be stored in a special compartment. When you don’t need to charge anything at all you can pull out the plug from the wall and wind up the cord into one of the legs. The green cord retracts into the leg as a symbol of reduced consumption.”

“Powerwise is made out of locally produced MDF board. The electric components fulfil the European CE standard. Our aim is to ensure that the materials are the most suitable from an environmental viewpoint.”
